The exhibition of works by Gerard Avedissian opened on Wednesday, 11 April 2012, at 6:30 p.m. at the Hamazkayin Lucy Tutunjian Art Gallery, under the patronage of former Minister Prof. Ibrahim Najjar and in the presence of a number of artists and art lovers.
Titled “Hommage Aux Ancêtres” (Tribute to the Ancestors), the exhibition features works of mixed media, acrylic and fabrics. It includes 35 works, which present figures from various Armenian regions with their special costumes and surroundings.
The opening speech was delivered by Mary Tcholoyan, who said that Gerard Avedissian is well known in Lebanon for his unique artistic style. She said that there are always innovative features in Avedissian’s works, which have been widely praised by the art-loving community.
The next speaker was former Minister Prof. Ibrahim Najjar, who said that Armenianness is apparent in all the works of Avedissian — through the costumes, colors, shades, and figures. Najjar noted that the artist presents collective values through his creations. He added that the Lebanese-Armenian community represents an essential part of Lebanese society, and Gerard Avedissian constitutes one of the bridges between Armenian and Lebanese people.
The speeches were followed by a performance by the “Giligia” dance group.
The exhibition runs until 23 April 2012, every day from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
