“Peaceful History, Bread and Wine”: Moushegh MKHITARIAN
Picture

“Peaceful History, Bread and Wine” is the theme of artist Moushegh Mkhitarian’s exhibition, which opened on 13 June 2013, at 6:30 p.m., at the Hamazkayin Lucy Tutunjian Art Gallery, under the patronage of Mr. & Mrs. Vahe and Nora Yacoubian. The opening ceremony was attended by a large number of artists and art lovers.

In his opening speech, Mr. Hagop Havatian, director of the Hamazkayin Lucy Tutunjian Art Gallery, welcomed the audience and thanked the event’s sponsors for supporting various initiatives that promote contemporary Armenian culture. Havatian also wished the Armenian artist continued success.

Art critic Dr. Movses Hergelian presented his views about Mkhitarian’s artwork and this exhibition. He praised the exhibited works, speaking highly of the right placement of the collages and the harmony of colors. He noted that it is possible to find a sense of complete Armenianness in Mkhitarian’s works, even without the depiction of Mount Ararat, Armenia’s lakes and mountains, and renowned Armenian figures or people. At the same time, they match the quality of artworks by internationally renowned contemporary painters. Hergelian said that in the past, artwork collectors used to wait for an artist’s rise in the international artistic scene to obtain his/her works. Nowadays, however, art collectors encourage Armenian artists to advance at an international level. The sponsor of this exhibition, Mr. Vahe Yacoubian, has contributed greatly in this regard.

In his speech, Vahe Yacoubian said that the artworks of Mkhitarian and others like him inspire hope among Armenians about Armenia’s future and encourage them to always view the country in a positive way. Speaking about the activities of the Hamazkayin Lucy Tutunjian Art Gallery, Yacoubian praised its contribution to the advancement of Armenian culture. He also expressed his gratitude to the Tutunjian family for supporting the creation of such a gathering place for artists and art lovers. Yacoubian added that Mkhitarian’s works reflect his kindness and nobleness, as well as his deep respect for the spiritual and intellectual values of the Armenian people.

The last speaker was Moushegh Mkhitarian who thanked the sponsors of the exhibition, Ms. Lucy Tutunjian (the Art Gallery’s principal donor), and the Art Gallery’s leadership and staff for the warm welcome and support. He expressed his hope to leave a positive mark through his works on art-loving visitors of the Art Gallery.

The exhibition runs until 1 July 2013, every day from 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. (except Sundays).
