It was Friday, July 17, 2015. The time was 6 pm.

A large number of artists, art-lovers and Hamazkayin members and benefactors from the United States, Canada, Europe, and many other countries had gathered at the Hamazkayin “Lucy Tutunjian” Art Gallery to celebrate the launch of the exhibition of artist Ashot AVAGYAN.

Being melded with the Armenian soil and nature, Avagyan was able to transfer the magnificence of the rocky landscape and nature of Armenia through his canvases.

Dikran Babikian, a very close friend of Avagyan, and a member of Hamazkayin USA spoke of “The Mad artist of Sisian”. He told stories of why Avagyan who has remained true to his native Sisian was called “Mad”. Avagyan had exhibited his works near waterfalls which have stolen away some of his canvases. He had displayed his art above bonfires which have engulfed his creations. He had done so because he believed that art is always in communication with nature. Avagyan also organized rituals to display the strong bond between man and nature.

Babikian continued his tales of Avagyan’s madness shocking the audience with the fact that the artist has already prepared his tomb stating that man doesn’t die, but he transforms and he feels that whatever has happened in his life is indeed the continuation of a previous happening.

Babikian also referred to the noble human character of Ashot Avagyan.

Havatian saw that owning Ashot Avagyan’s canvases can bring all these merits into our homes and lives.

Havatian also thanked the sponsors for their continued support to the mission of Hamazkayin in particular and the Armenian community in General.
