Speaking at the opening of the exhibition, Hagop Havatian, director of the Hamazkayin Lucy Tutunjian Art Gallery, said that the Hamazkayin Armenian Educational and Cultural Society, was founded through the efforts of great Armenians such as Nigol Aghpalian, Levon Shant, and Hamo Ohantchanian, who played a key role in the founding of the First Armenian Republic (1918–1920). Havatian added that today Hamazkayin continues to support the Armenian Republic that has regained its independence, always working to preserve and strengthen the newly established statehood.
Havatian stressed that this exhibition is valuable in terms of enhancing Armenia–Diaspora relations. He thanked Diaspora Minister Hranoush Hagopian for sponsoring the event.
In her turn, Minister Hagopian said that the works of artists from Armenia should be presented in Diaspora communities and reciprocally those of diasporan artists must be presented in Armenia, creating more opportunities for exchange and cooperation. She added that within this framework three pan-Armenian exhibitions have already been held, and she expressed hope that these initiatives will multiply in the future.
Next, Anna Shahnazaryan addressed the audience, and said her paintings represent her inner world.
Shahnazaryan thanked all those who contributed to the success of this exhibition, which ran until September 16.
