Haroutioun TOROSSIAN Exhibition
Oil and watercolor paintings as well as carvings representing painter H. Torossian’s work of over 50 years on display at the Hamazakayin Art Gallery.

Organized by the Hamazkayin Lucy Tutunjian Art Gallery, the exhibition of works by Lebanese-Armenian painter Haroutioun Torossian opened on May 13, 2010, at 6:30 p.m.

The exhibition features Torossian’s oil and watercolor paintings as well as carving works.

The opening ceremony was attended by Member of Lebanese Parliament Hagop Pakradouni, former MP Jacques Chukhadarian, Bourj Hammoud Mayor Antranik Meserlian, representatives participating in the General Assembly of the Hamazkayin Armenian Educational and Cultural Society, and a number of Armenian and non-Armenian artists and art lovers.

The welcome speech on behalf of the gallery’s Committee was given by Lola Beuyukian, who explained that Torossian’s works displayed at the exhibition are divided into several periods: pre-academic and academic period (1950–1953, Lebanon), academic period in Paris (1956–1966), abstract art period, and period dedicated to Armenia. Next, Beuyukian presented Torossian’s biography and the artistic value of his works.

Next, a speech was given by Hagop Havatian, director of the gallery and of the Hamazkayin “Vahe Setian” Printing and Publishing House, who said that since its launch, the gallery has managed to present seven exhibitions within a short period of time, and that this eighth one is unique because it coincides with the General Assembly of the Hamazkayin Armenian Educational and Cultural Society, being held in Lebanon. He said that the collective efforts and unconditional support of people gathered around Hamazkayin will contribute to further the gallery’s success and growth.

Havatian also congratulated Torossian for his significant and high-quality input in the art of painting.

The exhibition runs until May 31, 2010.
