“Rebirth”: Missak TERZIAN’s 80th exhibition

Hamazkayin Art Gallery hosted the 80th personal exhibition of the renowned artist Missak TERZIAN featuring 34 paintings under the title of “Rebirth”.

The Hamazkayin Lucy Tutunjian Art Gallery organized artist Missak Terzian’s 80th exhibition, under the title of “Rebirth.”

The opening of the exhibition, which featured 34 paintings, was held on March 17, at 6:30 p.m.

In her opening speech, Carla Tutunjian presented the biography, legacy and artistic taste of Terzian, noting that his stay in the United States from 1989 till 1994 has greatly influenced him.

Speaking at the event, Terzian referred to three Lebanese-Armenian artists that have largely influenced his artwork: Shart, Guvder, and Krikor Norikian. He added they have all inspired his work in the field of art, through their advice, guidance and encouragement.

Terzian said that he was devastated when in 1989, during a bombing in the Beirut port, 104 of his paintings, the fruits of six years of hard work, were burned. Today, through this exhibition, he said he is being reborn. And for this reason, the exhibition is titled “Rebirth,” as some of the works it features are reproductions of his works destroyed in 1989.

During the opening ceremony, renowned artist Guvder spoke about Terzian, his student. He said that Terzian’s talent was obvious ever since his study years, and thanks to his talent, he used to outshine his classmates. “Now I admit that he has outshined me,” Guvder added.

The exhibition will remain open at the gallery till March 31, 2011.
