Dikran DADÉRIAN is awarded the St. Mesrob Mashdots Medal during the opening ceremony of an exhibition held at Hamazkayin Art Gallery celebrating his 50-year legacy.
The opening of the exhibition of works by painter Dikran Dadérian, entitled “Fifty years of creation,” was held on March 15, 2012, at 6:00 p.m., at the Hamazkayin Lucy Tutunjian Art Gallery.

The exhibition features 31 abstract paintings, each with a unique style, reflecting the inner world of the artist.

The event opened with a speech by art critic Dr. Movses Hergelian, who said that Dadérian is a witty person with great sense of humor, and these characteristics have deep meaning and value. Hergelian added that Dadérian’s works express his emotions, imagination, sadness, and movement; all these have a direct impact on his creations. Hergelian said that Dadérian’s artistic style has influenced greatly the works of other foreign artists. Therefore, such exhibitions, Hergelian noted, offer the opportunity to get acquainted with and honor such big artists as Dadérian.

Speaking next, Mr. Hagop Havatian, director of the Hamazkayin Lucy Tutunjian Art Gallery, said that Dadérian’s creative career has a 50-year-old history. To pay tribute to this legacy, the directing body and committee of the Hamazkayin Lucy Tutunjian Art Gallery proposed to His Holiness Catholicos Aram I of the Holy See of Cilicia to honor Dadérian.

Archbishop Kegham Katcherian, Prelate of the Armenian Diocese in Lebanon, delivered a speech at the exhibition opening, who stressed that the Lucy Tutunjian Art Gallery is the best medium to establish contact with artists and their works. He said that high-quality artwork brings peace of mind and soul.

Archbishop Khatcherian also announced that on behalf of Catholicos Aram I he will award Dadérian the St. Mesrob Mashdots Medal, in recognition of his cultural and educational contributions throughout the years.

After receiving the Award, Dadérian delivered a speech. He said that he never wanted to resemble anyone; instead, he has always relied on the judgment of art lovers. He thanked Hamazkayin for its continuous work in the fields of culture and education.

At the end of the ceremony, director Varoujan Khedeshian gave a short speech.

The exhibition runs until 31 March 2012, every day from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
