Hammoud Chantout

Born in Syria in 1956. A graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of
Damascus in 1980, Chantout continued his studies at the world-renowned Ecole
Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts in Paris, where he received first prize in the
Admissions Competition. After completing his degree that was distinguished with
honours in 1984. Hammoud Chantout is best known for heavily textured mixed media
canvases that are executed with abstract approaches, even if they often portray
figurative subject matter. Hammoud Chantout is a prominent member of the
contemporary Syrian art scene and has exhibited his works in solo and group

exhibitions in both the Arab world and abroad. A consummate artist, Hammoud has
participated in a number of workshops in the Levant and North Africa. Hammoud
Chantout’s works are housed in private collections in Europe and North America, as
well as landmark Syrian collections.
